Testimonials

Johanna is professional, thoughtful, caring, and knowledgeable. She easily dove right in with kindly caring for our little one PLUS chores around the house and showing us how to use different baby carriers during post-partum doula hours. Much appreciated! She also supported us in our sleep struggles. She is very responsive when you are scheduling her services, and her website makes it easy to handle the administrative parts of hiring her. - Claire

Where to begin!?! Johanna came and helped us the first few weeks home. Our little was a bit restless and the second Johanna was around her energy calmed the whole room and allowed us to sleep!!! She was very respectful in our home and helped with some dishes and laundry. I think everyone should consider a postpartum doula and Johanna is the best. - Kayla

Johanna came to our home for a two-hour class on natural pain management. It was the most empowering experience that my partner and I have experienced so far in our journey to parenthood. Johanna made me really think about how I usually manage pain, and helped me work out strategies to work through it once labor starts. What I appreciated most, though, were the strategies she gave both my partner and I so that he can be an active participant in our experience. I felt so bonded to him, and so strong. Thank you, Johanna. - Malyssa

I came to Johanna for a sleep consultation after ready many books, articles and blogs and even trying another sleep consultant. All of those other sources left me feeling like there was a “right” way to teach your child to sleep and they all seemed to have a list of “bad habits” that interfered with “good” sleep. That kind of rhetoric left me feeling like I just was bad at teaching my kids to sleep and unless we made some drastic changes, I had little hope of improving our sleep situation, which in turn created a lot of anxiety for me around my children’s sleep and bedtime. Johanna was so different than any other approach I had encountered, and such a needed change from the typical messages around sleep. She got to know me, our family, our concerns, our priorities, what we valued, what had worked with sleep, what was frustrating with sleep and what we wished could be better, and she helped me to create a strategy for making changes in our routines that would support our goals and priorities. She eased my anxiety, and gave me the hope and confidence that we could make changes to improve sleep. Johanna is a wonderful resource, and an intuitive support and guide who values and supports the beautiful individuality of each child and each family.  - Gloria

Before the pandemic hit, I had set up phone and email services with Johanna. My first experience with post partum was less than ideal, I struggled with anxiety and depression and the constant weight of the world to be a perfect mom. I learned through that experience I needed someone to support me mentally. Johanna was truly a god send. Every week, I looked forward to our talks. They grounded me and kept my mental health in check. I would highly recommend Johanna! - Kristin H.

Johanna is a valuable resource in navigating sleep with my youngest child. Her wholistic view is a breath of fresh air amidst a society littered with one-size-fits all sleep "training" approaches. Johanna's approach helps me meet my child's needs while meeting my own. When my daughter was 11 months, and waking frequently after going to bed for the night, Johanna helped me identify ways to get my husband involved and to build in nourishing self-care. She also guided us through transitioning our daughter from a crib in our room to a floor bed in her new room. All of these evidence-based ideas resulted in more sleep for our family. I recently enlisted Johanna's help for a second time through her Gentle Transitions Sleep webinar to learn how to night wean with my now toddler. I appreciate her practical tools and her supportive demeanor. I can’t recommend Johanna enough. Thank you! - Kelly

Johanna's gentle approach was just what I needed to help the tricky sleep transition we're in with our toddler. She brought so much insight and I left the webinar feeling confident and peaceful--despite the frustration I'd been experiencing previously. I love that the starting point was to brainstorm our values so we can act in alignment with the way we parent. Thank you Johanna!

Johanna was a god send for our family after having our second baby. We used her for overnight visits as we don’t do well with lack of sleep in our house. She was so helpful around the house helping us get chores done (while we slept!) and was so great with our newborn. It was such a blessing having her help in what is a special but challenging time in life. Her endless knowledge helped keep our stress and worries to a minimum and we always knew our baby was in good hands while we got some extra rest. We highly recommend Johanna to anyone who is looking for a doula!! - Trisha

It was absolutely wonderful having Johanna as our postpartum doula for our first week home from the hospital. We had a rough transition to a family of four that ended up as a struggle around our 3-year-old's bedtime, but Johanna's calm presence and gently offered advice helped us get through it. I'm a "doer," so struggled a bit to sit back and let someone else do the chores, but it was amazing and so helpful for the clean dishes to be put away, dishwasher reloaded, laundry done, and floor swept (and for me to have a chance to take a shower each day she came!). In the end, I was much more relaxed than if I'd tried to juggle those chores myself in between caring for the newborn and the preschooler. As much as Johanna helped with the practical things, I also found being able to just sit and talk and process things with her so valuable. We are considering hiring her for additional time after my husband goes back to work. I couldn't recommend Johanna more highly to anyone having a baby!  - Alli

The Plan for Postpartum workshop was invaluable to myself and my husband as we imagine life with our first baby. I did not grow up around family who had young children and so my understanding of this unique time is limited. It was so helpful to step through the physical, mental, spiritual, and intimate challenges that arise in the fourth trimester. If anything, my only criticism is that I wish the workshop was longer -- I could have easily spent a half day, or a full day, working through the exercises and conversations Johanna brought up. I also appreciate Johanna's calm demeanor and the supportive environment that this workshop created as we begin to put in place what we need to make this new stage in life joyful.  - Amy

I have had the pleasure of attending both the "Planning for Postpartum" workshop as well as the "Dream On: The Art and Science of Infant Sleep" course. Both of these courses were packed with opportunities for learning and exploration, as well as concrete tools for use to approach the challenges of the postpartum period and infant sleep. Johanna is knowledgeable and compassionate, and helps prepare parents for these major transitions without any bias or judgement. She meets you where you are at and helps you work to make a plan that will best support you and your family's lifestyle and preferences. As a soon to be second time parent, I know all to well the tendency to over prepare for labor and birth in our culture, but under prepare for the all consuming changes and challenges that the 4th trimester brings. These courses help bring awareness to new parents to be and offer practical solutions for tacking these transitions as a partnership. I highly recommend both courses to everyone, from first time to seasoned/experienced parents! - Grace S.

Her sleep class was awesome! Even as a second time mom I learned a lot about newborn sleep, what to expect, and how to get quality sleep as a new parent. Such a fun and engaging teacher who could answer my numerous questions with evidence-backed answers. Highly recommend learning from Johanna, and if I ever need a postpartum doula I know who I will go to first! - Zoe R.

Johanna provided postpartum support for my family after I had my baby and a subsequent appendectomy 3 weeks later. She helped get our house back in order and it just felt like such a necessary reset to get us back in the swing of things. Johanna is an extremely kind, gentle, and peaceful presence. I feel as though she truly enjoys everything she does for mamas, even picking up my used nursing pads and putting them in the laundry! You can feel the joy she has for caring for people in their postpartum time of need and it puts you at ease - particularly if you're someone who has a hard time asking for help or feel guilty having others do things for you. She's so authentically happy to help, it is refreshing and relaxing. Johanna is also incredibly easy to talk to and non-judgmental if you have any motherhood questions while she is there. - Becca D.

I recently attended Nested Mama’s Dream On workshop and have walked away with a new understanding of babies and their sleep. Johanna taught and presented material in such a way it was easy to understand. She was very professional in a way there was absolutely no judgement or bias. She presented evidence based material and really spent time explaining the importance of doing what’s right and comfortable for you and your family. I would highly recommend her services and classes to new and even seasoned moms and dads. - Kristi N.
